Fast and Pray for the Future of Grace

Fridays’ fasting ends this Friday, June 25th. Please share what you are hearing from God at future(at)GraceChurchChicago.org .

Next Steps: Be watching for listening circles, a communal discernment process, to be scheduled in July and August.

Summer Reminders for Youth

Now that summer has started, don’t forget the on-going events at church.

This Sunday, June 27th there will be a SAG (Sunday Afternoon Gathering) at Becky and Lee’s from 1 to 4pm.

The 4S retreat is coming soon. We need your RSVPs by July 1. A verbal or written commitment is due to Becky or Pastor Ryan by then. Forms and payments will be due anytime prior to the event. Don’t miss out on this!

Also, check out the schedule for the rest of the events this summer.

Fasting Continues

“Fasting is more than an act of abstinence. It is an affirmative act; it is a way of waiting on God; it is an act of surrender.” James Earl Massey

As we fast and pray for the future of Grace, is God calling us to surrender? Share what you are hearing from Him at future(at)GraceChurchChicago.org .

Memorial Service for Jewel Kirkpatrick

With sadness and joy, we will celebrate Jewel Kirkpatrick’s life of faith in a memorial service on Tuesday, June 15, at 2 p.m. in the sanctuary.

Celebrate Our Grads

Join us this Sunday as we acknowledge students graduating from high school, college and post-grad degrees. A reception in their honor will follow worship.

Thoughts on Fasting

“Jesus combined prayer and fasting to overcome his temptations in the desert. The early church followed this practice at critical points in its life to discern how God was leading them and to empower their ministry (Acts 13, 14)…These examples suggest that the combination of prayer and fasting invites a greater measure of God’s power to be released through us than might be possible through prayer alone” (Marjorie J. Thompson, “Soul Feast: An Invitation to the Christian Spiritual Life,” p.70).

Our fasting and praying for the future of Grace continues to June 30. Hearing something from the Lord? Share it at future(at)gracechurchchicago.org.

4S Retreat

4S.2010 Retreat do what?! (attempting faithfulness)

Who: Jr. and Sr. High Youth

Details:
Starts with dinner on July 27 at 7pm at Grace Covenant Church.
Ends after dinner on July 30 at 8pm at Grace Covenant Church.

We will:
Slow down by being together for 70+ hours. We will stay at the church and do events around the region: some will be fun, some will be active, others will be service projects, times of silence, big games, or worship. We will focus on God, each other and the event we are doing.
Be still as we have times of silence and worship in reflecting on God. You will be asked to be quiet at times and give up things when we’re together.
Serve others as we have several opportunities to do service projects around the city.
Be surprised at some of the things we do and the way God speaks to us.

Due dates: Return your registration form with payment (if applicable) by July 1. (There may be a limited number of spaces after this date, but due to transportation we need to have a number by July 1).

Cost: $50 for entire event. If you cannot afford this, please pay as much as you are able. Scholarships are available.
